The most important people in a child’s life are the people who love them. You are the force that makes learning an active and integrated part of your child’s life. There are many things you can do to help your child with a foreign language, even if you do not speak the language. The
more fun you have at home, the more easily your child will learn — Toddler Classes: We require 1 parent or caregiver to be present per child, since that age requires support and supervision in a group setting. Adults will be students with their children, fully interacting in the class. We do ask that parents refrain from speaking in English to other children or the teacher, to support the immersion environment. The most important thing to do for this age is to demonstrate enthusiasm and patience, and to repeat class activities at home while playing. We also provide vocabulary and song lists that to play with at home. Preschooler Classes: We welcome 1 parent or caregiver per child for any class (optional). We do ask that parents refrain from speaking to other children or the teacher, to support the immersion environment. We encourage playtime at home, repeating our games and songs with your child. "Dora the Explorer" in Spanish and "Ni hao Kai-lan" in Chinese on Nickelodeon Jr./Noggin are fun shows. We also provide vocabulary and song lists to play with at home. Or just ask them to sing one of our many songs for you! Older Classes: These children attend on their own, since socialization is an important part of learning at this age. Ask them to tell you what they’ve learned or act out what they've done in class. They will be proud to show off! We also provide vocabulary and song lists to play with at home. Mandarin Classes: Our Foundation Program teaches"pinyin" (the roman alphabet that tells us how to pronounce the Chinese characters), introduces basic characters, and developes the children's listening and and basic speaking skills. In the Continuing Program, children deepen their listening and speaking abilities, and learn to read and write characters - including stroke order. We also provide vocabulary and song lists that you can play with at home. And here is a great Chinese "pinyin" website! Additional Resources: We welcome enrolled families to ask us about additional language resources - and we provide vocabulary and song lists to play with at home. And families not yet enrolled can Contact Us to attend a free class, to see what we're all about!
