Summer Camp Schedule — School Year/Fall Schedule — Class Descriptions —
Small Class Sizes: Our classes make learning language fun, natural, and easy. Toddler and Preschooler classes generally have no more than 6 children. Toddler classes require 1 parent per child for interaction and support. Parents are optional in Preschooler classes. Older classes have no more than 8 children, and we welcome parents on the first day and last days - our parent show! Language Immersion: Most classes are entirely in the foreign language, with time at the beginning and end for review and encouragement in English. Our Mandarin Programs for 6-10s provide immersion playtime, and they use both languages to teach "pinyin"' and characters. Diverse Learning Styles: All of our classes are interactive, varied, and use a wide range of learning styles. Children listen, speak, look, touch, make music and sing, interact, create, and move. Fun Activities: Our activities center around daily routines, well-known stories, and familiar games. We make language relevant and engage the imagination. As part of our mission to making language learning fun and playful, no classes have homework - but we do provide vocabulary and songs for you and your child to use at home. Our classes make learning fun, natural, and easy. Age-Appropriate Units: Toddler classes use games, songs, rhymes, and crafts about everyday life to engage developing senses. Preschooler classes use fairy tales, acting, games, music, art and some reading to encourage langauge understanding and creation. Our older children's classes engage them in more complex theatrics, culture, stories, reading, writing, music, and games that extend over a few weeks and develop communication and social skills. No Repeating Lessons: Our 2-year curriculum means that students never repeat the same old activities. New language, stories and games are always being introduced. Yet opening and closing activities remain the same, and instructors continually use learned materials in new contexts. This combination of repetition and newness allows children to strengthen skills and develop new abilities. Mandarin Foundation and Continuing Classes: Our Mandarin Program for 6-10s follows a special order. Students new to Mandarin take a 12-week Foundation Program to learn "pinyin" (the phonetic alphabet to read all characters, which is so important that it is 20% of the SATII), basic characters, and to begin developing listening and speaking skills. Our Continuing Program develops abilities more deeply and in new contexts, with longer immersion activities and both reading and writing characters - including using correct stroke order. School-Year Sessions: Children enroll for a school-year session of 36 weeks for consistency, practice, and potential for fluency. Is your child more hesitant? Try a seasonal mini-session first! Summer Camp: Our 3-week camp meets 2 hours, twice a week. (Mandarin Foundation Camp is 4.5 weeks.) We introduce seasonal activities, and we make sure to include everyone's favorite games from the school year. We provide open play time for children to integrate activities into their own lives. We have a short break half-way through. Parents are encouraged to provide snacks.
